Electrical Cooling Solutions (ECS) is a thermal engineering consultancy in the area of electrical drives. We have considerable experience in providing thermal solutions to electrical machines and power converters.

Our mission is to help our customers across different market sectors to meet the challenges of designing drives for improved efficiency, power density and reliability.

At ECS, we use a multitude of analytical and simulation methods in our design processes. These have been applied suitably to different electrical drives markets, each of which has its own specific requirements and considerations.

Our simulation methods offer fast and affordable alternatives to traditional approaches. We encourage a Simulate Early, Simulate Often approach which has been proven to be a key factor to deliver products to the quality and cost specs without missing planned launch dates.

Team Members.

ECS is formed around a team of experts in the industry, who continue to provide a world class service.

Dr. Chris Tighe
Managing Director & Founder
Chris has been working on research in electric drives and thermal management strategies since starting his PhD in Thermal Management of Power electronics. His particular interest and specialisation in modelling and simulation technologies. Chris founded ECS in 2013 and took up the role of full-time Managing Director in 2017.
Dr. Kevin Bersch
Senior Thermal Engineer & Lead Developer
Kevin received a B.Sc. and M.Sc. degree in Mechanical Engineering from the RWTH Aachen University, Germany. He completed his PhD in the Fluids and Thermal Engineering Research Group of the University of Nottingham in 2019, where his research focused on the use of CFD to improve thermal performance of electrical machines. His role at Electrical Cooling Solutions focuses on the thermal optimisation of electrical machines and power electronics using computational and experimental techniques.
George Batho
Graduate Thermal Engineer
George graduated from the University of Nottingham with a 1st class M.Eng degree, showing an excellent understanding and propensity for numerical modelling techniques and CFD. Since joining ECS in 2021, George is enjoying applying his learning to the exciting and challenging field of electric drives.
Dr. Rob Rolston
